The journey to health begins with a single step!

It’s the second Sunday in May; the climbing vines on the fence are coloured golden and pink Camellia petals grace the footpath as the early autumn sun rises.

Three years ago, around this time, my mum succumbed to cancer. Since then, I have always dedicated my Mother’s Day to a charity initiative or social event and this year was no exception.

The perfect morning

The heavy morning fog had just lifted off the water at Mosman Bay revealing white sails in crystal blue waters. Cool, refreshing air was washing away any last trace of sleepiness – it was a perfect morning and the perfect place for a brisk walk!

Sparkling Mosman Bay!

At the Mosman Bay Marina, I joined some friends from The League of Chinese Universities Alumni Association in Australia (LCUAAA) for the scenic walk along the Cremorne Point Circuit track. The walk was organised to encourage people to get active.  To support this initiative and to promote healthy living, USANA Corporate office generously provided Rev³ caps for everyone who came along that day.

Botany Bay to Cronulla

I began regular bushwalking with friends a few years ago.  From Botany Bay to Cronulla beach, then Spit Bridge to Manly and along the countless coastal trails in the Royal National Park, I’ve enjoyed walking many kilometres with friends. I can’t imagine enjoying it as much on my own. With friends by my side I’ve tackled the steep slopes of national parks, held deep philosophical conversations and overcome the many obstacles that have come my way. Plus, we’ve all benefitted from the many health benefits that come with regular bushwalking – fresh air, vitamin D production as the sun hits our skin, improving fitness and stress relief! It’s believed that regular walking with friends helps prevent cognitive decline too!

Amongst all of my bushwalking accomplishments, the Cremorne Point Circuit track is one I truly recommend! With stunning views, lush green bushland and foreshore landscape, hidden tropical gardens will amaze. Wandering a little further, the historical Robertson’s Point Lighthouse leads the way to breathtaking, panoramic views of Sydney Harbour.

Iconic surroundings

Sitting on the lawn in awe of iconic Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, I couldn’t help feeling so fortunate that I live in Sydney! It’s a modern cosmopolitan city surrounded by the beauty of well-preserved nature reserves. Too often, we don’t take the time to appreciate our surroundings and become consumed by the hustle and bustle of city life. There are too many reasons to be busy, but not enough excuses to take time out. It’s only until we lose something – or someone – that we begin to learn to live again.

The iconic Sydney Harbour – just one of the many beautiful sites!

I am already looking forward to my next bushwalk this coming Sunday. I know we’ll uncover another hidden track and discover even more of the never ending beauty of Sydney!
