A Beauty Therapist, business women and wellness mamas. What do the following ladies all have in common? They are passionate about skincare and wellness! We’re excited to launch our new skincare range, USANA Celavive® in January 2018 and grateful to have these lovely ladies to be the face of Celavive and help share knowledge, experience and information so that we can all be Celavive pros!

As USANA Founder and Visionary Myron Wentz said, “We are now focused on the future and have found a way to incorporate our ground-breaking InCelligence® technology into our skincare products. By introducing USANA Celavive® to the world, we will once again change the competitive landscape as we know it.”

Here are our ambassadors representing the future of USANA!

Vivienne Lee

Vivienne Lee, USANA Celavive Ambassador

Vivienne says, “Being a business woman who meets a lot of people every day, I have to look my best at all times, with or without makeup. I also want to keep my skin looking youthful! Hence, I need a skincare product that not only makes my skin glow, but also has scientifically proven anti-ageing properties. In Celavive, I have found my answer! Celavive works for all skin types and all ages. I am glad to be representing such an amazing product, and I can’t wait to share it with you.”

Naomi Makahunuiu

Naomi USANA Celavive Ambassador

Naomi says, “As a busy home-school mumma-of-four, in my early thirties, I’m at the age where I think about how I can keep my skin looking young and gorgeous for as long as possible! I want to age with grace and beauty, having a couple of fine lines that show laughter and joy, not an aged face that looks like it’s suffered years of stress.”

“I’m super passionate about Celavive as it gives me a super non-complex way to treat my skin with the love it deserves. Not only that, but I get to share this beautiful product with others, helping them learn how to love and care for the skin they’re in.”

Michelle Heatherley

Michelle Parker, USANA Celavive Ambassador

Michelle has been in the beauty industry for thirteen years and has always had a passion for helping people with their skin. She says, “I have worked with A LOT of ranges over the years, some good, some bad, and all of them expensive. I didn’t start to really get results for my clients until I introduced them to USANA’s products. I love that I can offer a top of the line, holistic approach to skin health that my clients can afford. Celavive is the ultimate skincare with breakthrough scientific technology behind it, and I wouldn’t use or recommend anything else. I love it!”

Tiffany Matthews

Tiffany Matthews, USANA Celavive Ambassador

Tiffany Matthews lives in Tauranga New Zealand with her husband and two children, Frankie and Luca. She says, “As a busy mum I am often pressed for time in the mornings, so it’s important that my skin routine is simple and easy to follow. I don’t wear a lot of makeup, so I need my skin to be healthy and glowing in its natural state.”

“I also know that when we take care of our skin, we are taking care of the largest organ in our bodies. This is why I am so excited to be using Celavive because not only does it make my skin look beautiful, but it can actually aid in my overall health.”

Claire Wu

Claire Wu, USANA Celavive Ambassador

Claire and her husband were introduced to USANA three years ago. She says, “We were so amazed by Dr Wentz’s vision and high quality products, which have helped millions of people. I especially love skincare products and hosting home parties. I love being able to share such game changing products with others.”

It’s summertime, so that means BBQs at the beach, waterfall walks, picnics in parks and any other excuse we can find to slip on the jandals and soak up the sunshine. It also means it’s time to protect our precious skin. Vitamin D is great for us, but too much exposure to UV rays can do some serious damage, and we know how brutal the Kiwi sun can be!

As teenagers, we’d lay in the sunshine for hours on end hoping for that beautiful glow, and feeling cheated when instead we got bright red tan lines, and our golden skin didn’t stick around for long, as we watched it peel away.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in New Zealand. New skin cancers total about 67,000 per year, compared to a total of 16,000 for all other types of cancer. Our skin cancer rates are the highest in the world. In fact, the incidence of melanoma in New Zealand and Australia is around four times higher than in Canada, the US and the UK1.

How do we enjoy our Kiwi summer as well as protecting our skin against sun rays?

1. Cover up!

Okay, so maybe not as much as Joey, but throw on some light clothing that covers up your skin. At the beach it’s really handy to have a light beach sarong to throw over yourself, as you’ll be covered without overheating. Plus, who doesn’t love a floppy sun hat and sunglasses? Not only will you be trendy, but also protected.

2. Fake It Baby

Instead of heading to the beach or the tanning beds to become a golden gal, hit the stores and purchase a good spray tan, or splash out on a professional spray tan. Beauty doesn’t have to be pain!

Oncologists now believe [tanning beds] are to blame for the alarming spike among young women in lethal melanoma cases — the second most common cancer in adults under 302.

There are great spray tans on the market that don’t turn your skin orange like they used to and provide a natural radiance to your appearance.

3. Seek Shelter When The Suns Out

During peak hours, which are generally from 10 am to 4 pm, try to keep out of the sun. If you don’t want to miss a beach day (which let’s be honest, we don’t), find a spot under a tree or bring a beach umbrella or small beach tent.

4. Slop On The Sunscreen

If you’ll be outdoors for long periods of time, be sure to slop on a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 30 half an hour before going outside (remember: 30 + 30). Also, be sure to reapply after a couple hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.

It’s a great idea to use a day-time moisturiser or foundation with SPF in it, so that it’s part of your daily routine!

5. Examine Your Skin

Have a look over your skin regularly, especially if you have fair skin or moles. If you see a mole change colour or shape, be sure to see a doctor right away. Click here to learn more about how to self-check your skin!

6. If In Doubt, See Your Doctor

When you go in for a physical, have your doctor check your skin too. If you have done a self-check and any of your moles could look unusual, check with your doctor ASAP. If melanoma is recognised and treated early enough it is almost always curable3. It’s much better to be safe than sorry!

Love The Skin You’re In

You’re going to be in it for a long time… so love the skin you’re in! Not only will you be healthier, but you won’t gather wrinkles before you’re meant to. Happy summer days!

We’ve got six winter-warmer ideas that won’t break the bank! From stylish layers through to soup, you’ll love these ideas!

Layer Up

Layers - Keep warm in winter

The more skin that’s exposed, the colder you’ll feel. Plus, it can look stylish layering up. It’s time to get out the thermals, scarves and beanies.

Eat Well and Drink Warm

Soups and stews are great for warming you from the inside out! Eating nutritious foods like fruit and vegetable will also help to ward off colds and flues. Nobody likes getting body aches and chills!

Get Moving

Exercise - warm in winter

It might be the last thing you want to do when it feels like five degrees outside, but it’s going to get your blood pumping and heat you up! Take care of your joints, as they’re more prone to injury in cooler temperature. Read how here!

Snuggle Up

Save on the power bill by snuggling up! Grab your cosy blankets, hot water bottle, onesie and bed socks (and don’t tell me you don’t own fluffy, atrociously coloured bed socks). You might even get some warm fuzzies from knowing you’re doing your bit for the environment by not blasting your heater on full.

If you can find a person to snuggle, even better.

Tips to Heat Your Home

So you’ve layered, you’ve overdosed on soup, you’ve moved and you’ve snuggled. It’s time to heat up the house. Here are the best ways to ensure you’re heating your home efficiently.

  1. Block unused chimneys and draughts from windows and doors.
  2. Open curtains to let the sun in, and then close them when the sun goes down to keep the heat in.
  3. If your home feels damp and cold, use a dehumidifier. Humidity makes your home hospitable to allergens like mould, mildew and dust mites which can cause allergic reactions, asthma and other health issues.

Immunity Supplements

Immune supplements warm healthy winter

On top of eating a nutritious diet to keep yourself healthy, supplements can give your immune system an extra boost. Multi-vitamins and antioxidants can help you get the essential in, plus these winter essentials are designed to help your immune system work at its best!

Probiotics

You probably know that probiotics promote gut health, but they’re also packed with lesser-known benefits, like strengthening immune health!

More immune cells are concentrated in the gut than in any other region of the body. Friendly bacteria are vital to immune system!

Vitamin C

You’ve probably been told you should take vitamin C to prevent getting sick, and that’s pretty good advice! It can help boost immune function, but only if you take it before getting sick.

Vitamin C is critical for a properly functioning immune system, and if you’re not getting enough regularly, you could be more likely to get sick.

USANA has two supplements with vitamin C – Proflavanol and Poly C.

Proflavanol® C100 provides superior antioxidant protection with a synergistic blend of grape seed extract and Poly C™.

Poly C is USANA’s vitamin C supplement with a unique blend of mineral ascorbates.

An in-house clinical trial showed that when equal amounts of vitamin C were provided as either Poly C or ascorbic acid, the Poly C gave higher levels of vitamin C in blood serum and maintained those higher levels for a longer time.

Zinc

This essential mineral, which acts like an antioxidant in the body, keeps the immune system working at its peak. Studies have also shown that zinc can help to reduce the duration of colds.

This is why USANA’s Proglucamune contains it! Proglucamune contains a certified organic blend of medicinal mushrooms (reishi and shiitake), combined with a unique zinc formula to help boost immunity by strengthening your immune cells.

Shop USANA supplements!

Share this with your friends and family to keep them healthy this winter!

What is Yoga?

Before I get into it, I’ll briefly go over what Yoga is. Originating in ancient India, it is a series of stretches and poses accompanied by breathing techniques. Yoga really is what you make it. It can be as difficult or as easy as you want. It can be meditative and relaxing, or it can be energetic. There are so many different variations!

Why You Should Practice Yoga

  1. It helps your mind, body and soul. It can help strengthen and stretch your muscles as well as be relaxing and meditative. There is growing evidence that supports that yoga has physical and mental health benefits. “Twenty-six healthy adults age 20–58 (Mean 31.8) participated in six weeks of either astanga yoga or hatha yoga class. Significant improvements at follow-up were noted for all participants in diastolic blood pressure, upper body and trunk dynamic muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, perceived stress, and health perception. The improvements differed for each group when compared to baseline assessments. The astanga yoga group had decreased diastolic blood pressure and perceived stress, and increased upper body and trunk dynamic muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and health perception” (Cowen & Adams, 2005)1.
  2. Almost anyone can do it. It can be a very gentle exercise and the poses can be adapted to suit different ages and fitness levels.
  3. Yoga can help improve a number of conditions from lower back pain to depression.2
  4. Improve balance and stability. There are many balancing poses which require you to use your core muscle. Thus, helping improve your overall stability.
  5. Improve posture. Yoga poses strengthen and open tight areas of the body like the shoulders and muscles of the upper back. This can help you keep good posture.

How to Get Started

It’s simple and easy to find a yoga class! You can check out your local gym, yoga studio, dance studio, health club, or community centre. There are even online tutorials you can do at home. You might want to try classes with a few different instructors until you find one that suits you.

We have a yoga class 8am-9am on Wednesday 22 March 2017 at our office – Level 1, 93 Ascot Ave, Greenlane. Come along if you are interested in trying it out! It’s just $10 cash. To register or for more information please email me on [email protected]

Yoga is personally one of my favorite ways to exercise! Even if I’m not doing an entire class, most days I incorporate yoga stretches into my day to help with any muscle pains, particularly in my back. It also gives me a sense of gratitude and peace. If you haven’t already, consider trying it out! If you have any concerns or medical issues, like any other exercise, make sure you talk to your doctor first.
