]]>The third annual fundraising event with the WTA and Aces for Humanity has just kicked off. For those unaware, beginning at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, every ace served by the eight USANA Brand Ambassadors-Caroline Wozniaki, Eugenie Bouchard, Madison Keys, Monica Puig, Sloane Stephens, Samantha Stosur, Alize Cornet, Kristina Mladenovic and Zheng Saisai-the WTA contributes $10 to the campaign, while every ace served by any other WTA player translated into a $5 donation.
This year we have also teamed with the WTA to run a social media contest that includes prize packs of USANA product and a signed tennis ball from a WTA player at the end of each Premier-level event this season. For full contest rules visit www.wtatennis.com
Collectively, 430 aces were recorded by USANA Brand Ambassadors during last season’s campaign, with Madison Keys leading the group with 138 non-returnable serves. Through this program and other charitable efforts, the WTA has contributed over $115,000 to the USANA True Health Foundation since 2011.

]]>The post Meet Team USANA Athlete Adrian Leat! appeared first on Usana Health Sciences Organization.
]]>We sat down with Adrian to chat about Judo, winning and vitamins, and here’s what he had to say…
How did you first hear about USANA?
I first heard of Usana through a fellow team mate who was taking your products at the time. We were training together in Europe and he offered some of Usana’s product to me to take
What’s your favourite product?
The Essentials are my favourite Usana product. With my busy schedule, I find I can get really tired. Taking the multi-mineral gives me reassurance that my body is getting all the right mineral’s it needs in order for me to stay healthy and on top of my game.
What’s your number 1 tip to staying fit and healthy?
Take Usana products, stay hydrated, eat right, train at least once a day, and try and get 8 hours sleep a night.
Who’s your sporting idol, and why?
There are a few. Rob Waddell is my favourite. As well as being a World and Olympic Champion, he is an extremely down-to-earth guy and very approachable. As the New Zealand Chef de Mission at the Commonwealth Games, he was extremely supportive of the athletes, turning up to each of sports’ training, as well as each competition day.
How did you get involved in Judo?
My dad first got me and my brothers into Judo. When he likes to tell a tall story, he’ll joke that me and my brothers were too afraid to walk down to the local shops in our neighbourhood for fear of some other local boys who hung out there. In reality, he wanted the boys to get off the couch, stop watching television, stop playing video games and learn some physical co-ordination and above all, gain some self-confidence. It just so happened one day he was on a job with our very first junior coach. My father explained that he had three sons and were looking to get them into a sport. My coach said “great! Bring them along”. I was six years old at the time and have never looked back!
Tell us about your training schedule:
It’s pretty hectic at the moment! I work full-time as an architectural designer which is a 830am – 530pm job. My training revolves around this. I wake up at 6am Monday-Thursday and head to the gym to do either my strength, power or conditioning training (depending on what phase I’m in). I’ll train Saturday morning in gym sometimes too, depending on how tired I am from the week. Friday evening and Sunday morning I do more judo specific, high-intensity conditioning training. While based in Auckland I train Judo 4-5 times a week at two-three different clubs, and also with the Auckland squad. Monday, Tues, Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons are dedicated to judo training – 1.5 – 2hours each session. On Wednesday evenings, I’ll either have a sports massage or judo training. Lately, my body has needed the sports massage!
What are some of your career highlights to date?
My best career highlight to date has been my Silver at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. On top of that, competing at the World Champs in Rio in 2013 was a big highlight. Rio is the most amazing place I’ve been to date. Also, watching the Paris Grand Slam at Bercy Stadium last year was a real ‘judo experience’. It’s a highly renowned competition in the judo world. The stadium is packed every year with mad French fans who know and love their judo. I hope to compete there next Feburary.
What’s coming up for you?
Right now, I’m focused on the World Championships. I fly out in a week’s time and compete in about two and a half weeks’ time. Beyond that, my ultimate goal is to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio next year. After the worlds, I’ll be looking to compete in as many competitions on the International circuit as possible to fight for precious ranking points that will qualify me for the Games.

]]>Brooke is a member of the New Zealand hockey team and has recently joined Team USANA after many years of enjoying the benefits of the products. Here’s what she had to say…
How did you hear about USANA?
My mum opened a USANA business when I was 12, and I started taking body rox before moving onto the essentials. 11 years later I’m absolutely loving them!
What’s your favourite USANA product and why?
There are too many favourites to choose! I really like Procosamine for my joint health, especially the amount of loading I put through my bones. I also enjoy Proflavonol, and Biomega for my skin.
What’s your tip to staying fit and healthy?
Build a routine. Aim to do something active every day, even if it’s just a walk and stretch. Combine that with a healthy and balanced diet and USANA supplements, and you’re on your way to a healthy lifestyle!
Who’s your sporting idol, and why?
Novak Djokovic because he is such an all rounded athlete. His diet is impeccable, the skill he has and commitment to being number 1 is very impressive.
How did you get involved in Hockey?
It runs in the family! My older brother is in the Blacksticks Mens team, my dad played and he also coached many of my teams growing up. At the age of 4 I began playing, and haven’t looked back! It was great following my brother’s lead.
Tell us about your training schedule:
It depends what we have coming up. Leading up to a major tournament, we would have 5 hockey training sessions, 3 gym sessions, 2 fitness sessions along with our own personal muscle rehabilitation and stretching, with Sundays being our rest day.
What are some of your career highlights to date?
My debut vs Australia in 2013 was unforgettable, along with our big tournament this year (the olympic qualifier) in Belgium where we came 4th.
What’s coming up for you?
We have a tournament in Taranaki where we take on Australia, Samoa and Papua New Guinea. In November we head off to Argentina to play in the World League round 4 finals, taking on the top 8 teams in the world. All of these tournaments we are looking at building our team for our major goal of a medal at the olympics next August.

]]>The post Britta’s Winter Update appeared first on Usana Health Sciences Organization.
]]>This is my first winter in New Zealand in a few years and, thanks to El Nino, it is shaping up to be a bit of a cold one. I am definitely a hot weather person. I love training in the heat and when it comes to racing, the hotter the temperature the better it is for me. The reason why I am still in NZ during winter is that this year I have decided to focus 100% on qualifying for Kona and, more precisely, on doing a really good race there. This means no trip back to Germany this year but instead some early season races in the Southern Hemisphere to top up my points and then, provided I have qualified come the end of July, a big build up for Kona in Noosa, where it will at least be quite cosy during August and September.
There are a number of really important things that I have to focus on to enable me to endure the challenges associated with training long hours in winter time. One thing that I think is important and that is to is to have some really big goals to think about on a daily basis. Focusing on these targets motivate me to get out and do the training regardless of the weather conditions.
Another thing is that it becomes even more important to take car of myself. Good nutrition is important all year around but, for me, during winter I am really extra careful to make sure that i not only eat a healthy, balanced diet, but that I also take extra care to make sure that I keep a really strict routine with my Usana supplements. The Usana Essentials are invaluable and give me the added confidence that I am giving my body the very best chance at staying healthy, and recovering adequately on a day to day basis to be able to handle my training.
My next race is planned to be Ironman 70.3 Korea, at the beginning of July. This is my mid-winter goal and will be a good test to see how my winter training has gone so far. No doubt I will still log a few more sessions on the dreaded indoor training before then but, so far, I am surviving it. Keep warm everyone, summer is just around the corner
Cheers,
Britta

Even if you’re not a professional athlete, you still want to perform at your best in everyday life. Whether you’re training for a marathon, enjoying a new sport or simply trying to stay fit and healthy, you know the importance of good nutrition in your life.
Sometimes it’s impossible to get all the nutrients our bodies need from food alone. This is especially true today, when many nutrient-rich foods are grown, processed and stored in a way that depletes their nutritional value. Taking nutritional supplements from USANA’s Essentials range keep your body in top form.
“USANA Essentials have made an amazing difference to my health. I feel that my body is stronger and healthier, and recovers faster when I use it.” – Britta Martin, Triathlete and Triathlon coach
Professional athletes may put more pressure on their bodies, but they live healthy, active lives and reap the benefits of pushing themselves to their limit. Their secret for success is making sure they’re getting all the nutrients they need. If you want to be healthy, fit and in control, you should, too.

]]>The post USANA Athlete Tips: Keeping Fit and Healthy over the Festive Season appeared first on Usana Health Sciences Organization.
]]>“Christmas time is always busy, visiting friends and family and the whole social experience. I travel a lot in the months leading up to the middle of December and so for me I find it to be particularly hectic. I use this time as a bit of a rest period from my normal squash specific training, so I am not working as hard as I normally do, however I still like to do something most days to keep active.
I don’t see a lot of summer time, so I like to make the most of it and be outside. I find that the best thing for me is to get up in the morning and to have a training session straight away. I mix things up, sometimes I will go for a run, workout in the gym, or maybe a casual bike, but I always try to do it first thing in the morning. If I wait until the afternoon, I find too many distractions and then this is when I have a much bigger chance of not doing a training session that particular day. I have found this to work best for me over the summer period and hope it works for you too during the summer holiday season.”
– Martin Knight, Professional Squash player
“The best way to stay healthy and fit over the holidays is to set yourself a specific goal. At the moment is the right time to look for something to train for or set a specific goal. It can be something like a little race, for example a 5km running race or a bike race or whatever you like. It could even be something for yourself, for example do your favourite running loop faster or do a higher weight in the gym. But you want to achieve it by January or February. By doing this, you will always have it at the back of your mind, while still allowing yourself to have a nice Christmas dinner. You will try to make up for it the next day, because you want to achieve your goal. Myself, I will have a big race at the end of January. I am very excited about the Christmas holiday period, because I know, I have a few more holidays and time to do more training. I will still have some treats and nice food, but will run it off the next day. Allow yourself to some treats, but make sure you do an extra km the next day Have a happy Christmas Holiday! “
– Britta Martin, Triathlete and Triathlon coach
“During my break I am still active, I just change my routine to keep it fresh and interesting; to give the top two inches a break and have fun. I like getting into activities with my family. I took up aqua aerobics with my mum while off the bike for a while. It was solidly entertaining and provided a good excuse to visit the coffee shop for mother-daughter time afterwards. I also went on a few tramps/ rock climbing/ kayak expeditions with my sister and her crazy outdoor friends which was so much fun
I am also a fan of Bikram Yoga, it’s a hard workout, but very social and relaxing. Once again it is simply something different to do, that will help maintain fitness. I like it because it is an all over body workout, so helps balance my proportions somewhat (the upper body in most cyclists is non-existent).
I tend to get a bit spontaneous during the indulgent season too, with food and exercise. I find that I am rather relaxed with what I eat, but I am still conscious of not overeating, which is an important factor to maintaining shape without strict training regimes. I jump in the occasional social/indoor sports games, take dance lessons with friends, fall on my face and trip over my poles attempting Nordic walking and generally do things which are new, or that I think I would enjoy. I do still get in the saddle for the odd toodle, and even joined the dark side, going mountain biking a couple of times.
The main thing is keeping it relaxed, fun and interesting.”
– Ashleigh Neave, Cyclist
“Maintaining your health and fitness over the Christmas & New Year celebrations is absolutely possible, and believe it or not you can still enjoy the festivites and start the new year feeling fit and fabulous to boot! Like any goal you need to make plans and a commitment to stick to them. You might actually find this is a time you can sneak in a bit of extra exercise, if you have some time away from work.
For me, I always keep the bigger picture in mind- in my case the next big competition and my goal to win a medal at the next Paralympics. Christmas and New Year fall right in the middle of the swimming season in Australia, so I have been training hard for months and over indulging just isn’t worth it. For me Christmas is MOST fun when I KNOW I AM STILL ON TRACK WITH MY TRAINING.
If I am heading into a REALLY major competition, not much about my routine changes. I will be training on Christmas eve, sometimes even on Christmas day. If the public pool is closed on the public holidays I substitute by going for a ride of my handcycle in the park or doing a workout at home.
One way we tend to over indulge during the festive season is with all the delicious food at parties and friends’ places. To help with this I often take a healthy dish to a gathering, which other friends can enjoy and can help me keep on track. I prefer to taste a few ‘treat’ items I will REALLY enjoy rather than try EVERYTHING. Filling up on salads and light options help.
I like to get my training done for the day before heading off to celebrate with friends and family so I am free to enjoy the rest of the day.
Wishing you a Merry, Happy and Healthy Christmas!”
– Marayke Jonkers, Paralympian
“I find Christmas is that part of the year to enjoy myself and spend time with family, but I justify eating all the good stuff by substituting it for exercise, for example during that time I will take the stairs instead of the escalator.
Eating in moderation is also a good way of handling it – eat what you want but in moderation. Seeing as though this time of year there are so many festivities going on, if I have to drive I’ll park a good walk away so I get some exercise that way.”
– Nathan Charles, Australian Rugby Union player and Super 15 Rugby player
“This is a very easy question for me to answer because at this time of year in New Zealand we are preparing for Surf Life Saving and Kayak Nationals and for Events in Australia. So if you don’t stay on track with the training and the complete nutritional regime you can kiss your season goodbye so it is business as usual!! There is time to rest at the end of March but not over Christmas and New Year. For example -The Squad I train with were all out on the Ocean in Surf Skis at 7am last Christmas day. I can remember that it was a stunning morning, warm and still with a glassy ocean and we paddled from the Club to the Coastal Mountains and back, around 25kms, before going home to a Christmas breakfast!! We still have time with friends and family but it makes it so much easier when your friends and “Family” are the people you train with because we help each other keep on track and encourage and support everyone.
I guess it depends on how dedicated you are and what goals you have but if you are part of Teams, whether it be Double Surf Ski or K2 Kayak, then you need to be on the same page with your Team Mate!”

]]>The post Nathan Charles – Hooker for Western Force Visits USANA appeared first on Usana Health Sciences Organization.
]]>Nathan is an up and coming Australian Rugby Union player and Super 15 rugby player. He plays Hooker position for Western Force which is one of the sports’ hardest and most physically demanding positions. In 2010, he made it into the Wallabies training squad and is well known for his sensational length of the field run which saw him lead his team to victory against the Crusaders.
What makes this young player’s achievements all the more remarkable is that he was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a potentially fatal disease with no known cure leading him to be chosen as the Ambassador for Cystic Fibrosis Australia.
We asked Nathan about his relationship with USANA….
‘I am thoroughly looking forward to forming a strong relationship with the USANA Team and its product. It is a product that I hope will allow me to achieve my optimum level of performance on and off the rugby field. I am excited about the prospects of what this product can do for me and am also eager to share it with others with whom I feel can benefit from its use.
I believe the team at USANA to be a well balanced, cohesive and knowledgeable unit that will support me in my drive to achieve my goals’.
