Does RESET really work? The answer is a definite yes! Studies show that meal replacements (MRs) like Nutrimeal can be extremely effective in helping to kick-start your weight-management plans, help to break up bad habits and may even help you overcome the dreaded weight-loss plateau. USANA’s RESET Program is designed help you shake off bad habits, focus on health and weight and start you on your way to a healthier new you.
It’s all about energy. Foods and drinks contain energy in the form of calories (except water which is calorie free). Your body burns calories while exercising and simply to live – cakirues are burned while you rest and sleep, too. And you burn them faster when you exercise.
If you take in more calories than you burn, you’ll store the extra on your body. If you burn more calories than you take in, you’ll lose weight. If you want a leaner physique and you want to be healthier, do it right! By combining fewer calories and regular physical exercise, you’ll lose fat and retain metabolism-boosting muscle. More muscle means that you will burn calories faster plus more body muscle means fewer wobbly bits and a more sculpted shape!
Remember, the RESET Program is only part of your long-term solution to better health. Thinking about what you eat, making the right food choices, getting your head around portion control and learning about healthier food preparation and cooking skills will help you to get the most from your healthy new lifestyle.
Getting into good habits means that you are less likely to go back to eating the types and quantities of food that caused your body to put on the excess kilos in the first place. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water.
Exercise also needs to be a part of your regular life (aim for 30-60 minutes of moderate intensity exercise – the kind of exercise that makes you a bit out of breath but still able to carry out a conversation). Remember, if you haven’t exercised for some time or you have a medical condition, speak with your doctor before starting a weight-management and exercise program.
According to Dr Gary Egger writing in the Medical Journal of Australia ’Clinical trials show partial meal replacements (MRs) seem to be safe, acceptable and more effective over the long-term than most other diet-based weight loss techniques…’
He adds, ’Because most individuals in modern societies consume too much energy in relation to expenditure, there now seems little reason not to prescribe properly constituted partial meal replacements for whom this treatment is appropriate. In fact, with the trend to modern sedentary lifestyles and escalating levels of obesity, it is not difficult to imagine much of our population needing to use partial meal replacements judiciously at some time in the future for prevention or treatment of overweight and obesity.’
Whether you use an app such as easydietdiary.com (easydietdiary.com) or myfitnesspal.com (myfitnesspal.com), logging your diet and exercise activity is absolutely essential to success. You can track how much you consume and how much you burn and this will help to keep you accountable. Getting on the program and committing to it with a buddy is also a great way to keep you accountable and boost your motivation – and share your successes, too!
Track every aspect of your weight-loss process, every bite and sip you take and every rep in your exercise routine. Do it faithfully and you’ll be able to see patterns and routines. And by analysing these patterns, you can find personal solutions for your particular weight-management challenges.
Wishing you the best of health!

]]>Renuka Keenawinna had battled with her weight from a very young age. The confessed comfort eater says that although eating made her feel better for a short while, nothing could help her feel good about herself when she braved the mirror.
‘I often used my family as an excuse to help myself cope with my weight fluctuations and put off tackling my unhealthy behaviour. For example, what mother doesn’t want to give her kids the best opportunities to excel? To do this, I had to drive them around everywhere didn’t I? Why should the family have to eat steamed vegetables and diet foods just because it was me that was overweight? They were always there and I needed to do the household chores. So, what time was left for me to exercise?’
And so the excuses went on and Renuka says that she kept her self-loathing and low self-esteem hidden – the baggy clothes certainly helped! But being on the sidelines as a participant in what should have been an active life was increasingly getting her down.
Then at the beginning of the year, Renuka made a life-changing decision. She made a promise to herself and her family to get healthier. She joined the USANA RESET program.
Taking each stage head on, Renuka started to see amazing results and she has lost a staggering 25 per cent of her starting body weight – an incredible loss of 20kg.
‘It has literally reset my life and goals!’ says a delighted and super slim Renuka. ‘Now, I can shop for fashionable clothes that flatter my figure instead of hiding under baggy, shapeless outfits.’
And her incredible weight-loss has boosted her health, too. ‘My cholesterol level is lower now and I have more energy and I have a much more positive outlook – not just for myself, but for my children, too,’ says Renuka.
But getting to a healthier weight is not just important for her – the loving mum has always had her children’s best interests at heart.
‘I have always wanted to do what was best for my family and now I realise that setting a good example with a healthy lifestyle is so important!’ says Renuka.
Now more confident about getting involved in life and doing the things that her weight stopped her from doing before, Renuka is even taking up new activities on top of her now-regular exercise. ‘The thought of getting into a bathing suit disgusted me before and I never learnt how to swim. But now, it’s not such a scary prospect. And my daughter has even offered to teach me!’

]]>‘The RESET Challenge was an amazing way to improve my health which over the last few years had declined dramatically,’ says Jerome Amarasinghe from Sydney who is one of three winners the USANA ANZ RESET Challenge.
‘My doctor had told me that I needed to improve my eating habits and my health and he said that I needed to take action immediately. I realised he was right and I had to do something,’ adds Jerome
The 24-year-old keen sportsman had found that his weight gain was hindering his love of sport and his ability to take part in it. He was getting tired quickly and struggling to play his beloved cricket. So, when the chance to get involved in the RESET Challenge came about, he took the opportunity to improve his health.
Jerome followed the three-stage RESET plan. And, after the 90-day Challenge, he shed a staggering 40kg in 13 weeks – that’s a quarter of his starting weight! He began to feel fitter and more confident, too.

Afterwards: a super slimline Jerome! |
As well as following the RESET program, Jerome took and continues to take Essentials, HepaPlus and Procosamine. ‘Taking all of these has made a significant impact helping me to be active and enjoy competitive sports again,’ he says.
So how does it feel to be a much fitter, slimline version of himself? ‘I no longer feel tired, I have more energy and am able to do more because I don’t have to carry those extra kilos of weight around with me. I am no longer embarrassed about playing sport or going swimming either. I am happy with my image and I am so glad that I commenced this weight-loss plan,’ adds Jerome who is part of the USANA Team Vision Dynamic.
Jerome now slips into clothes that he hasn’t worn for the last five years. He has changed his clothing size from a hefty XL to sleek, medium-sized clothes that feel so much more comfortable.
But it’s not just Jerome who has benefitted from his incredible weight-loss.
‘My transformation has helped me to inspire others around me to make better health habits – people can see a completely new me and want to make changes so they can do the same! Some of my work colleagues have taken up their own RESET challenge and all of them are benefitting from the program. Some of my co-workers have already achieved their goals, which is fantastic!
Getting involved in the RESET Challenge has given me the opportunity to change my outlook and better my quality of my life and that of others, too. Thank you USANA!’ ends Jerome.
Congratulations Jerome on your wonderful weight-loss!
