Finally, the build-up is over. The secret is out! We’ve been bursting to tell you the details about our new products and a new era of Nutritional Science! No other company even comes close to our InCelligence science. So, what is InCelligence?

There is unimaginable untapped potential inside every human being. We are all destined for greatness with boundless possibilities uniquely encoded into our DNA.

Every cell in our body is programmed to maintain vibrant health but the daily pressures and stresses of life hinder this natural phenomenon from effectively taking place. There is no doubt that the true secret to being the healthiest person you can possibly be is hidden deep within our microscopic cells.

After decades of grueling research USANA has finally found the key to unlocking your potential and unleashing the promise of optimal health inherent in you.

Without further ado we would like to introduce to you USANA’s Science of InCelligence.

A New Era in Nutritional Science

Our breakthrough, patent-pending InCelligence is the next leap in personalised nutrition, pushing the frontiers of cellular nutrition and expanding the horizons of personalised health.

InCelligence combines our vast knowledge of cells with the most innovative research in molecular biology and genetics. It utilises a natural process called cell signaling, whereby cells signal or communicate with external molecules and each other, tapping into your innate cellular intelligence. This has been made possible by USANA scientists successfully formulating a powerful blend of nutrients that can communicate with your cells.

Cells are extremely intelligent. Our bodies at any one time have billions upon billions of reactions occurring per second. These reactions as well as the processes resulting from these reactions are all made possible through cell signaling.

Proactively supporting these processes with InCelligence helps build cellular resilience and can encourage the longevity of cellular function, empowering your body to meet your unique health needs. That’s how InCelligence unlocks your body’s unparalleled ability to personalise optimal health from within, helping to support your cells’ natural protective and renewal abilities.

No company today comes close to our patent-pending InCelligence science. InCelligence taps into the cellular communication network of your cells, to help create the most effective, holistic approach to your health.

Although we can’t see them, cells are the building blocks of life! They are the basic structural unit of all organisms. How much do you know about them? If you don’t remember all that much from back in science class, let us refresh you!

We cannot doubt the power these small microscopic orbs of life hold. There is no doubt that the complexity of the body is mind boggling. All our larger bodily processes are all supported by many smaller more complex processes happening at the cellular level.  So many reactions are taking place at any onetime that if we were to list them all it would literally take years. When trying to understand the process of healthy cellular function we have to first delve into the essential components of the cell which make it all possible. Hopefully you were paying attention in your high school science class, but if not, prepare yourself for a crash course in cellular energy production.

Every cell has an organelle, or microscopic organ, called the Mitochondria. This organelle is located in the cytoplasm or outer fluid of the cell and its main function is energy production. It converts glucose (sugar) into ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), which is used by the cell as energy that becomes fuel for cellular processes.

At the same time, another process called Mitophagy is taking place. Mitophagy is a natural renewal process in which our cells break down and recycle damaged mitochondria to maintain a healthy cellular environment.

Dr. John Cuomo, USANA’s executive director of product development and technologies, explains this crucial process.

“Mitochondria get damaged as they work producing energy,” he says. “To produce energy, you need to burn fuel and in that process you create free radicals that are damaging to your cells. Mitophagy is a natural process in which our cells recycle this damaged mitochondria to support good health.”

When mitochondria are young, they are real go-getters (aren’t we all?). But when they get older, their function becomes impaired — eventually damaged to the point that the mitochondria are making more free radicals than energy, translating into more and more oxidative stress.

Knowing that we want to limit oxidative stress to maintain good health, you can see the value in nutritionally supporting the natural renewal process that occurs in our mitochondria.

The speed at which our cells naturally regenerate mitochondria is normally controlled by nutrient availability. When nutrients are present in high quantities, the cell doesn’t need to be as efficient. It has plenty of fuel to burn. But when nutrients are scarce, efficient energy production becomes much more important. Our bodies normally trigger the “mitochondria renewal” process in times of low energy — such as when we’re running low on food.

“But if I’m not mistaken,” John says, “most of us don’t live in states where we’re running out of food. As a matter of fact, most of us get too much food on a regular basis.”

For that reason, our cells are naturally recycling mitochondria much less efficiently. We need to find other ways to trigger the mitochondrial recycling process even when we have plenty of energy.

“And we think we’ve found that secret,” John says.

USANA scientists are focusing on leveraging the body’s natural intelligence to create optimal health. Are you ready for a new era in nutritional science? Be a part of it on Aug. 25 at the 2016 USANA International Convention!

We all know that exercise, eating well and taking your vitamins can improve your health. But did you know that these more unusual activities do? Here are 5 ways to improve your health besides good old-fashioned diet and exercise.

hands-1032312_960_720Knitting and crocheting
Get out the wool and knitting needles! The repetitive nature of this activity with your hands sends signals to your body which immediately relax you and make you feel grounded. It is the same as with any other repetitive activity with your hands or body, such as colouring.

Going outdoors
Feeling stressed? Clear your mind with a stroll outside. Research indicates that Vitamin D from sunlight elevates your levels of serotonin, which makes you feel good. In addition to this, taking in your surroundings takes your focus away from your worries. Research has also shown that spending time in nature has been associated with decreased levels of mental illness such as depression and anxiety, increasing concentration and even faster healing. So go outside and spend some time in nature!

cat-1647775_960_720Playing with pets
Yes, that’s right. Your furry friend is keeping you healthier. Caring for a pet has been shown to decrease blood pressure and cholesterol levels, reduce feelings of loneliness and more! So go and spend some time with your little fur ball, and if you don’t have one, make friends with the cute cat down your street.

Meditation
Anyone can do it! You don’t have to dedicate your life to being a yogi. You can simply put aside a few minute of your day to close your eyes, relax and focus on breathing. Meditation has been linked with numerous health benefits such as improved digestion, reducing stress, and even reducing physical pain.

dancing-1245865_960_720Dancing
Whether you’re going to a party or you’re at home blasting music, singing terribly and getting your boogie on, hitting the dance floor is a great way to improve your health. Studies have shown that it can help you lose weight, reduce stress, increase memory, improve heart health and more!  Who knew!

So when you go home from work tonight, will you be getting out the knitting needles, adventuring outdoors, hanging out with your furry friend, meditating or getting your boogie on?

InCelligence FB (NZ)1You know the old saying – you are what you eat. Well, there’s actually more truth in this than you might realise! Food has a significant influence on our health. We are all made up of trillions of cells. The food you eat feeds your cells information and keeps your body functioning. Locked within our cells are the tools to keep us healthy! USANA has thoroughly researched the cellular signalling prcoess, and we know what works best. So how much influence does food really have?

Nutritional Science up till now has only touched the surface in terms of the effects of food on the complex functioning of our bodies. They say you are what you eat but maybe this common phrase might actually be right after all. There is a growing amount of scientific evidence suggesting that there is no doubt that food has a significant influence on our health. The true question is how much influence does food really have?

Take a moment to digest this: You’ll eat between 60 tonnes and 100 tonnes of food in your lifetime. And every bite you consume is feeding your cells information — or misinformation. Unhealthy food and environmental toxins are all delivering our cells nonsensical information that confuses our body. In other words, that tasty fast-food hamburger is actually giving our cells potentially damaging misinformation.

“If you think about the breakdown of food and all those molecules inside that food, some of those molecules are literally messengers,” says Dr. Kevin Spelman, USANA’s executive vice president of research and development. “They transfer and carry information. They will trigger events in our physiology that are healthful, provided that the food we eat is nutritious.”

You could think of food as information. Information for our bodies, information for our cells, and information for our molecular pathways inside our body. So we want to make sure we’re feeding our body the right information. But let’s be honest: in today’s society, for most of us, that’s easier said than done. We’re regularly eating unhealthily and on top of that we’re frequently exposing our bodies to damaging environmental toxins.

When it comes to truly enjoying your food, don’t base your experience solely on the short-lived taste of your chosen food, but delve into the much more fulfilling long-term and internal satisfaction from knowing you’ve made the best choice for your health. Because without a fully functioning body, it doesn’t matter how much yummy food you eat, you will never reach a true state of happiness. People take their bodies for granted; only to have it all catch up with them later in life. Life is already too short as it is, why make it any shorter?

The scientists at USANA Health Sciences are convinced that it’s never too late to change your nutritional path. If you have some spare time, make it a priority to watch Dr. Kevin Spelman’s video which explains how food can influence our health. Our cells are a lot smarter than we think they are and have been specially constructed in a way to adapt to changing environmental conditions. It is explained that locked within our own cells are tools to keep us healthy. Like keys in locks, cells are sending signals to activate various physiological responses.

“The good news is that USANA has researched the cellular signaling process based on the latest scientific evidence, and we really understand how that process works,” he says. “We’ve figured out how to tap into the way cells communicate with each other.”

The secret to good health lies in being able to promote the healthy functioning of our cells and giving them the fuel necessary to fight the constant bombardment of stresses and toxins in our lives.

Cellular communication is a complex network of processes within the body. As multi-cellular organisms the communication between cells, the building blocks of our tissues and organs, is critical to the overall survival of our body as a whole. Enhancing this essential process can have a positive cascading effect throughout the whole body and as a result makes us healthier.

USANA prides itself on its advanced cutting edge research and through focusing on optimizing the body’s natural intelligence we believe we have found the key to the next level of cellular support. What we’ve discovered will unlock a new era in nutritional science. And that era will begin on August 25 at the 2016 USANA International Convention. Will you be a part of it?

Who are we?

Take a walk through the halls of USANA’s office in Salt Lake City, and you’ll see plenty of people in lab coats. Listen carefully and you’ll hear a strange language filled with mysterious words and phrases like mitophagy, glutathione reductase, oxidative phosphorylation, and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor. Look around at some of the walls on the third floor. You’ll only see posters of scientific studies for decoration.

The coats aren’t a fashion statement. The scientific language isn’t a secret code. And the posters weren’t hung to create a particular feng shui. It’s just who USANA is, and we’re proud of it.

We Heart Science

We’ve been nerdy since ’92—way before it was cool. We can’t help it, and we don’t hide it. In fact, we embrace the scientific culture coded into our DNA. Science is literally in our name—USANA Health Sciences.

You’d expect nothing less from a company founded by a world-renowned microbiologist, Dr. Myron Wentz.

Why do we do what we do?

You aren’t born with the passion and vision required to alter the world. At 17, Dr. Wentz lost his father to heart disease. He was the first of many family members taken too soon by degenerative disease.

It was then Dr. Wentz decided to look for solutions in his other love—science, and developed his vision and dream of a world free from pain and suffering.

Dr. Wentz’ dreams of a world free from disease and believes the USANA family will be the healthiest family on earth.

“Share my vision. Love life and live it to its fullest in happiness and health.”

Our Scientific Method

Scientific innovation is work and time, trial and error, and an adherence to a standard set of steps—the hypothesizing and testing found in the scientific method.

We start in the pages of scientific literature, reading the current research. Kevin Spelman, PhD, USANA’s executive vice president of research and development, says our scientists also look at what innovative practitioners are doing, too.

After investigating the findings, a hypothesis is developed. That’s a familiar step. But the next step isn’t something you learned in middle-school science class.

“When we have that hypothesis, we’ll all put ourselves in a room and have a spirited debate on whether the model is accurate,” Spelman says.

From there, our scientists start to support the hypothesis or not. This could lead to a pilot study and further investigations by one of our research partners. The result of the testing either proves or disproves the hypothesis, and those results help shape our conclusions, which then develop the products you trust every day.

A Glimpse of the Future

InCelligence Instagram post (NZ)2Science is maybe the closest thing we have to real magic. Instead of pulling rabbits out of hats, scientists search the unknown, working to pull knowledge from nothingness. Our scientists continue to search the uncharted frontiers of nutritional science, discovering the next groundbreaking innovation that will brighten the future.

We are leaders in nutritional science. We are the healthiest family on earth. Science is a part of who we are. One of the most revolutionary changes are happening in our company! We can’t wait to share it with you at the 2016 USANA International Convention! See you there!

Revolutionary. Pioneer. Visionary. Words reserved for the bold, innovative and passionate. They describe a man who stepped into the unknown and through bold innovation and impassioned vision, shed light on an entirely new path to health.

Dr. Myron Wentz. Synonymous with scientific brilliance and the kind of disruptive innovation that accelerates the sluggish pace of science—and changes the lives of millions in the process.

Dr Wentz’ Vision

You aren’t born with the passion and vision required to alter the world. If only it were that simple. The creation of monumental change comes at monumental cost, too often paid in the currency of personal tragedy.

At 17, Dr. Wentz lost his father to heart disease. He was the first of many family members taken too soon by degenerative disease. These traumatic events forced a talented young musician named Myron Wentz to look for solutions in his other love—science.

Over the course of his life, these losses galvanised into a purpose-driven vision to improve the health of people all over the world, to save them from living too short and dying too long.

And that vision has made possible the long list of innovations and accomplishments listed next to Dr. Wentz’ name: internationally recognized microbiologist, pioneer in the development of human cell culture technology, developer of the first commercially available diagnostic test for the Epstein-Barr virus, and winner of the Albert Einstein Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Life Sciences.

If you want to be the first to know about the biggest innovative changes happening in USANA, register for the 2016 International Convention today! We’re excited about what the future holds and can’t wait to share it with you.

Having a strong immune system is not just important in the flu season, but throughout the whole year. It is our body’s defense against infection and illness. Our immune system is a very complex system of the human body and works on a cellular level. It recognizes the cells that make up your body, and destroys germs and parasites. As well as this, it protects against disease and helps to co-ordinate wound healing process, cellular/tissue turnover, repair, and (re)building. This is why it’s important to have a healthy lifestyle and take steps to maintain a healthy immune system.

The response to pathogens (a bacterium, virus, or other microorganism that can cause disease) is orchestrated by the complex interactions and activities by a large number of diverse cell types involved in the immune response.

The innate immune response is the first line of defense and occurs soon after pathogen exposure. It is carried out by phagocytic cells such as neutrophils and macrophages and granulocytes. The adaptive immune response includes antigen-specific defense mechanisms and may take days to develop.
Cell types with critical roles in adaptive immunity are white blood cells such as lymphocytes. Antigen-responsive stimulation of various cell types including T cell subsets, and B cells all play critical roles in immune defense.

To strengthen your immune system, you must address the needs of the systems in your body starting at the cellular level. The cells in our body have the ability to bring in nourishment and rid of toxins. This means our cells need enough energy and nourishment to operate properly otherwise the cells become toxic and malnourished and when presented with an infectious organism, whether it is the virus, or bacteria, they won’t have the vitality to resist and you will get sick.

Things that can weaken your immune system include:
– Poor nutrition / Highly processed foods
– Environment factors (pollution)
– Drugs/Alcohol
– Stress
– Inadequate sleep
– Poor hygiene
– Age

Therefore it’s super important to adopt healthy living strategies such as:
– A well-balanced nutritious diet
– Regular exercise
– Don’t smoke
– Drink in moderation
– Get adequate sleep
– Maintain a healthy weight
– Wash your hands regularly
– Get regular check ups

Another great way to ensure your immune system is at its strongest is to use supplementation. USANA’s complementary trio to immunity aims to improve immune cell function, protect against pathogens and support immune cells. The trio is made up of Proglucamune™, Proflavonal C™ and Poly-C™. These products combined support immune defense and sickness prevention.

Our immune system is such an important system in our body. It does everything from destroying germs and protecting against illness, to helping the wound healing process and tissue repair. That’s why it’s important to make sure you adopt a healthy lifestyle. Better yet, take supplementation for a further step in strengthening your immune system. Make sure you’re the healthiest you can be!

Your immune system is your body’s number one defense against infection and illness therefore it plays a crucial role in your overall health and wellbeing.
Your immune system is made up of biological structures (such as immune cells) which protect against disease and help c-oordinate the wound healing process as well as cellular/tissue turnover, repair, and (re)building.
There are two different types of immunity – innate and adaptive (see diagram).

Both of these types of immunity help your body to:
• Provide defense against infection & illness
• Distinguish between own healthy cells and invading pathogens or agents
• Heal wounds
• Support an active lifestyle
• Build up resilience to stressful environments
• Support overall health and wellbeing
In order to maintain a healthy immune system it’s important to get enough sleep, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, and reduce stress. You can also try supplementation for added immune support. All of these factors appear to play some role in immune system function.
